Liver Transplant

Liver transplantation is the process of surgically removing a failing or diseased liver with a normal and healthy one. Unlike kidney failure, Transplantation is the only cure for End-Stage Liver disease because no device or machine reliably performs all functions of the liver. Liver cirrhosis and other Chronic liver diseases have become a major contributor to chronic illness and death, globally. It has become the 11th most common cause of death worldwide. In 2017, more than 1.32 million deaths were reported due to cirrhosis.

The success of the program and being one of the top liver transplant hospital is ensured by top-notch patient care provided through close coordination among a multidisciplinary team of professionals which includes Gastroenterologists, Hepatologists, Liver Transplant Surgeons, Intensive Care Unit team, Operation Theater team, Anesthesia team, Laboratory, Radiology, Nursing, and Pharmacy, Liver Transplant coordinators and support services. In the last two years, the post-transplant survival rate has improved to 95% with 100% for donor survival. Shifa International offers Liver Transplant Cost-effective programs in the region – PKR 4.8 M or USD 30,000 (exchange rate variations apply) We have strict rules for accepting any person for a living donation. * As per Pakistan Human Organ Transplant Authority (HOTA) the organ donor is either: – a first degree relative to the non-Pakistani patient and or – a first or second degree relative to a Pakistani patient. The patient and donor will be asked to get admitted to the hospital 4 days before the surgery for a pre-surgery check-up. Normally the surgery takes approx. 6 hours in Operation Theater. On average, the patient and donor need to stay approx. 7 to 10 days at the hospital after the surgery. After discharge from the hospital approximate length of stay for Donor in Islamabad –Pakistan is 1 week and for Recipient is 1 month.

Before going to Shifa for my treatment, I did research on a lot of hospitals all across the world including Pakistan. I contacted Dubai Office and was convinced by their team to visit Shifa for my initial appointment and work up and got assistance throughout including all insurance matters. The whole team at Shifa and especially Liver Transplant team was extremely kind and helpful and made this decision less stressful for me. Though liver transplant is a complicated procedure but both me and my donor were taken care of professionally and Alhamdulillah we both recovered quickly.
